If you want to be an attorney, it is important to know exactly what it is that you are going to have to do on a daily basis.  This is definitely not a situation that you want to go into blindly.  You want to know that all the work that you are taking on to become an attorney is going to be worth the sacrifice.  You do not want to be one of those people that want to be an attorney, then find out later on down the line that this is not the job for them.  It is important that you learn some of the things that lawyers do on a daily basis before you even apply for the LSAT.  Truly, one of the best ways to gauge as to what it is that lawyers do is to take on an Internship at a law firm.  Before you complete the Internship, you are going to want to meet with the lawyers and ask them everything that they do on a daily basis, just in case there was something very crucial to the process that you may have missed.  You can use these conversations with the lawyers at the law firm to see if this is something that you could see yourself doing day in and day out.

1.  As an attorney, you are going to have to provide legal counsel to your clients and perspective clients.  An attorney has to evaluate a potential case that a prospective client presents to them.  Lawyers have to weigh the facts, many times in a short time span, to give the client the basic idea as to if they have any real basis for a case.  As an attorney, you are going to have to give the prospective clients an idea as to the odds that they have of winning a case.  You are going to have to also consult them on the best way that you see the case being handled, while still giving them the freedom to make their own decisions.

2.  Lawyers have to protect their clients from potential legal issues.  As an attorney, this means that you have to be researching the clients personal and professional entities to make sure that no one is violating their legal rights.  This means that you have to search and make sure that there is never even the prospect of this kind of activity.  Lawyers must make sure that the contracts that their clients are involved in are being properly fulfilled.  If not they have to advise the client, and take legal action if that is what they would like them to do.

3.  Lawyers are also responsible for helping out with paperwork on the clients’ behalf.  As an attorney, you will constantly find yourself writing on behalf of your clients.  Lawyers will be preparing legal documentation on their behalf to represent them in a host of legal matters.  As an attorney, you are going to have to write service contracts.  As an attorney, you will find that many of your clients will come to you for this reason alone.
